This week we studied the letter Yy. We sounded out and blended letters to write the words yarn and yo-yo. In math we started to study taller, shorter, heavier and lighter. We read books to reinforce the ideas using real world animals. In Social Studies we talked about King Penguins and their waxy feathers. Did you know that penguins can't fly?? They use their wings to swim quickly. Finally, in science we learned about our 5 senses. We use our eyes to see, our nose to smell, our mouth and tongue to taste, our ears to hear and our hands to touch. At the end of the week we played two different 5 Senses Game. The first was a matching game. The students matched a picture to a word...smell, hear, taste, touch, or feel. The second game the students shut their eyes one at a time and smelled different food items, listened to the food while I shook it, felt the food and finally tasted the food! That was fun. Most of the students said their sense of smell and taste were their strongest sense.
