This week in Transitions we wrote our first writing prompt of the year. First, I read the book Snowmen at Night, and then we discussed using our imagination. The children then completed the writing prompt: If I were a snowman at night, I would.... Next, we traced, wrote, glued, and sounded out words that start with the letter N. In Science we attempted two science experiments this week. In the first one, we tried to make snowflakes on Popsicle sticks. We did this by making a mixture of borax and water. We ended up with icicles on the bottom of the bucket instead. Not every scientific experiment works. Our second experiment worked much better! We used food coloring and added it to water to make colorful ice cubes. The following day we used the ice cubes to paint!! (See attached file) They had so much fun!!. In Math I discussed 2D and introduced 3D shapes. Finally, in cooking we make sugar cookies shaped as icicles. They were yummy! Next weeks letter of the week is S and we will be talking about snow!
